Root Canal Therapy

 In dentist

Have you just been told that you need a root canal therapy (endodontic treatment) or you might lose your tooth? Do not worry, millions of teeth are saved each year with endodontic treatment. Root canal therapy removes infected, injured or dead pulp from a tooth and it is a good alternative to tooth extraction. If your tooth has become badly decayed or cracked, root canal therapy might be required in order to save the tooth rather than replacing it with a dental implant. Green Apple Dental is your Surrey root canal specialist so if you have any concerns about your dental issues, do not hesitate to contact us and book an appointment with your Surrey dentist today! Root canal therapy is not usually performed during one visit and it might require subsequent visits of your Surrey dentist or endodontist.

Root Canal Therapy Procedure

The therapy starts with the standard drill that enables to access the inside of the tooth. Then your dentist/endodontist will use tiny files to remove the content of these canals. The tooth may have one or multiple canals (max. 4 canals). The files of increasing sizes are used to clean and shape these canals. Rubber cones covered with liquid sealer are placed into the canals as a filling material. Once the root canal has been sealed, heated instrument is used to remove excess rubber cones. To achieve the optimum results, one or multiple posts might be placed to strengthen the tooth and retain the filling. At the final stage, a crown (also called a cap) is used to cover the tooth.

Does Root Canal Therapy Hurt?

We will use oral sedation so you will not not feel any discomfort during the procedure. Root canal therapy is no more uncomfortable than a regular filling.

How Long Will The Tooth Last After Root Canal Treatment?

The tooth may last as long as your natural teeth if you maintain  proper dental hygiene and visit your dentist for regular check-ups and cleanings.
